An online community for systems innovations approaches to urban development
So What’s the Plan?
We are developing a network for systems innovation in the context of cities. This is about putting the new set of ideas from systems thinking to work in developing innovative whole-systems approaches to understanding, designing and developing cities.
Why are we doing it?
Today we find that many of the design challenges we face are fundamentally complex, from urban spall, to climate change to the many other challenges created by the rise of megacities. These kinds of complex systems require new ways of thinking and new ways of developing our urban environment for which existing approaches are fundamentally lacking in capacity, something different is needed... something more holistic in its approach.
What is Urban System Innovation?
As the urban systems we design become ever more complex and the need for more sustainable outcomes rises, a systems innovation approach to urban design, is emerging as a promising approach to meet these new requirements. It’s an approach that takes a more holistic and complete account of the diversity of actors and elements that constitute the design of a city dealing with networks and patterns of self-organization.
