Si Design Network
An online community for systems design in theory and practice
So What’s the Plan?
We are developing a network for systems design - a community of practice for those interested in this new approach to design base upon systems thinking.
“A community of practice is a group of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do, and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly."
Why are we doing it?
Today we find that many of the design challenges we face are fundamentally complex. These kinds of complex systems require new ways of thinking and new ways of designing for which existing methods - such as industrial design, service design, design thinking - are fundamentally limited in capacity, something different is needed… something more holistic in approach.
What is Systems Design?
As the systems we design become ever more complex and the need for more sustainable outcomes rises, systems design, or systemic design, is emerging as a promising approach to meet these new requirements. It’s an approach that takes a more holistic and complete account of the diversity of actors and elements that constitute the design of a complex system; such as a city, an airport, a healthcare system, an information system or any number of different services.
